In the spring of 2009, a new Progressive/Power Metal band was formed in Los Angeles. After various jam sessions and auditions, the right chemistry was found. The result was 5 talented musicians who share the same passion. A few of their influences include Angra, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and Symphony X. These men knew from their first session that they were on to something good.

The original line up consisted of Jun and Will (ex- Apothic Reign) on Lead and Rhythm Guitars, Luis (ex-Apothic Reign) on Bass, Denny (ex-Symetrica) on Drums, and Collin on Lead Vocals.

Weeks later, they formally proclaimed this new promising Progressive/Power Metal band was to be named Avant Guardian.

Avant Guardian went on to release a two song demo on their MySpace page: www.Myspace.com/AvantGuardianBand.
Produced, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely by the band, the demo includes the tracks ‘Rise To Glory’, and ‘Call Of Avarice’.

The band’s lyrical concepts include anything from social issues, to personal struggles. Their sound consists of a powerful rhythm section with fast and technical drums, intricate bass lines, classically influenced guitar riffs and melodies, and powerful vocals along with backing harmonies.

Avant Guardian has been actively rehearsing as they establish their own sound, refine their already written material, and most importantly work on new material for the future full length CD.

The year 2010 however saw some big changes in the band. In that summer, the band began their search for a keyboardist to fulfill the line up and complete the band’s sound. It was during this time that Avant Guardian and Jun parted ways. Now it was time to find both a keyboardist and second guitarist. They spent week after week in hopes of finding compatible musicians. After trial and error, Ivan and Sal were chosen as the musicians to complete Avant Guardian. Ivan (ex-The Last Demise) handles Lead and Rhythm Guitars, and Sal (ex-Konqueror) delivers on Keyboards.

As of December 11, 2011, Sal is no longer the keyboardist of Avant Guardian. We are looking for a new keyboardist, please inquire through AvantGuardian@live.com

2011 began with their new line up in place. Now they begin preparations to book shows and make a name for themselves. Avant Guardian strives to become one of the finest acts in the genre the local scene has to offer. They have the energy and experience to capture the audience’s attention. If you ever hear about an Avant Guardian show, try not to miss it…they just might end up performing with bigger acts in the not too distant future...and this is a journey they wish to share with you from its humble beginnings.
